RESEARCH:Analysis of music video

Music video by Valeza, Jessica and Erika.

This music video was produced by ex-A2 students. the song is called Wildfire.

Genre and Narrative/Structure: The genre of the song is pop and dub step. You can hear the loud dub step in the background while the artist is singing. The costume the artist wears which are Angel wings  has nothing to do with the video but is very effective. Also the prop, the bird she has locked in a cage is white. Where as the wings she wears are black. That huge contrast gives the video a dark feel with the music. The whole video is in black and white also giving the video a dark feel to it. An interpretation of the white bird being in the cage and the artist wearing black wings could be that the artist is evil and the bird needs to be set free.

Editing, Mise-en-scene: The editing to this music video has a variety of affections to it. For example from the beginning of the video there is a fast pace used for the bird in the cage, the hand writing LOVE on the piece of paper and also the fire moving fast .There are areas where slow motion is used, for example just before you see all the birds fly away in black the artist has her hands on head about to look down. Then straight after it the fast pace is back where the hand is writing something on a piece of white paper in black with fire around it. also the shadow effect can convey evilness and darkness within the music video towards the artist and innocence towards the things around her, for example the bird. There is also a wide variety of mise-en-scene and its very atmospheric. They shoot from an inside area and also the outside in a park( an urban area). There is a man dancing also to the speed of the song. One more effect is the use of reverse elements, when the artist reverses writing the word LOVE.

Sound and Camera: You can hear the loud dub step in the background while the artist is singing. The artist singing also almost defines the song. When the artist says " You're like a Wildfire" the fire moving in fast pace shows that and the cars moving fast shows the wildness. There are lots of camera shots in the video. There is a low angle shot for the bird in the cage at first and then a mid-shot of the fire in a circle shape and a mid-shot of the girl making a love heart with her hands. High angle shots when the hand is writing love and the water dropping. A variety of repeated shots are used before the artist is shown and starts singing and when just before she starts singing the fast pace of the video changes to slow motion and then straight back to fast pace motion.
